Dive into the heart of the Saguenay fjord and experience a unique experience at the Fjord Museum. Its mission is to highlight the sciences, notably the aquatic sciences, and to interpret the natural and historical heritage of the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region, in particular that of the Saguenay fjord and Ha! Ha! Bay. The museum also raises awareness among the community and the public of the importance of maintaining a harmonious balance with the natural environment.
Explore an aquarium of 53,000 liters of salt water and discover the species that inhabit its waters, from sea stars to sea urchins and sea cucumbers. You will be able to learn more about their way of life, their habitat, and their role within this marine ecosystem.
Continue your visit aboard the Navis for an immersive journey through the history and formation of the Saguenay fjord, thanks to a multimedia show.
Connect to our collective history with the exhibition From BALSAC to CopaQ, which traces the evolution of research in genealogy and genetics in Quebec. From the creation of the BALSAC file in the 1970s to the participatory platform CopaQ, this exhibition highlights the contribution of citizens to science and their link with the history of Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean.
In the summer season, the museum also offers outdoor activities, including low-tide excursions, to discover the hidden life of the shores, as well as guided tours of the historic Saint-Alexis district, which offer an immersion in the heritage of Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean.
Science, nature, and history come together to offer an enriching experience for the whole family.
Temporary exhibition:
Come explore Minéro on Safari, the new temporary exhibition produced by the Minéro Museum of Thetford Mines / KB3, presented within our walls from January 17 to May 24, 2026.
The whole family will be able to discover the astonishing similarities between minerals and animals, as well as the surprising links that unite them. Learn how certain species use minerals to protect themselves, feed themselves, or camouflage themselves. Observe fascinating exoskeletons and fossils. Discover stones with evocative names like tiger’s eye, as well as minerals and animals with colors and patterns that are astonishingly similar, including the ruby-throated hummingbird. From surprising textures to luminous phenomena like fluorescence, each space of the exhibition invites young and old alike to observe, compare, and share their discoveries. An interactive experience that transforms scientific exploration into a family adventure.
The production and the tour of this exhibition were made possible thanks to the contribution of the Government of Canada, Parc Safari, and Boralex.
