The T.E. Draper Historic Site and the Gédéon Shipyard - Guided Tour
Discover the breathtaking landscapes of the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region, with its numerous lakes and forests. An ideal place to recharge your batteries and have fun.
Pass through Angliers, more precisely in Témiscamingue, to admire the natural beauty of Lac des Quinze, the power and swirls of the dam as well as the tranquility and magnificent landscape. The village of Angliers is full of enchanting secrets with the presence of the timber tug T.E. Draper and its Canadian International Paper (C.I.P.) warehouse which has been converted into an interpretation center.
Recognized as a cultural asset in 1979, the T.E. Draper was the most important timber tug in operation on Lac des Quinze, during the years 1929 to 1972 for the C.I.P. Over the next few years, the tugboat was used to collect the remaining logs on the lake, until it was put into dry dock. This historical museum allows visitors to climb aboard this large boat and experience the log drivers and learn more about log floating in Témiscamingue. Inside the old warehouse called the hangar, you can find different goods and tools that were used to supply the log camps and the timber tugs.
This year, new for children, they will have the chance to try our new interactive game which allows them to immerse themselves in the world of a log driver who jumps from one log to another to reach the other shore. An entertaining game which allows you to end your visit to the hangar.
Continue your journey to the Chantier Gédéon, our second unique tourist museum, which presents a reconstruction of five logging camps representative of the 1930s and 40s. This presents life on the construction site and the hard work of the workers who prepared for the wood floating season. You can discover the dormitory camp, the kitchen, the general store, the foreman's camp and the stable.
A multitude of memories for some, but a great discovery for others!
