Kilkenny Regional Park - Lanaudiere
Kilkenny Regional Park: a new natural gem in Lanaudière
Since June 2025, Kilkenny Regional Park has been welcoming nature and outdoor enthusiasts in the heart of the municipality of Saint-Calixte. Developed on the site of a former quarry, this 13 km² territory offers, in every season, a privileged place for exploration, discovery, and contemplation.
A rich and diverse natural environment
Kilkenny Regional Park is home to remarkable biodiversity with 98 animal species and 204 plant species recorded. Two lakes and a river run through the territory, providing aquatic environments ideal for observing wildlife. As visitors stroll along the trails, they can discover a mosaic of habitats—forests, wetlands, and shorelines—and enjoy breathtaking viewpoints.
Activities offered – summer and winter
- Hiking: several marked trails allow visitors to explore the park at their own pace, suitable for all levels.
- Nature observation and interpretation: interpretation panels enhance the journey, while outdoor art installations are visible as soon as visitors arrive.
- Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing (classic and Nordic): in winter, the trails transform into a white playground.
- On-site facilities include a heated welcome pavilion (powered by solar panels), rest areas (benches, tables), outdoor toilets, and picnic areas (without barbecues). An outdoor fireplace is also available, but its use is regulated by park staff.

Culture, history & vision
The name “Kilkenny” pays tribute to the Irish settlers of the township, who had named the region after the city of Kilkenny in Ireland. The park reflects a desire to honor this past while enhancing the natural heritage. Its creation was guided by sustainability: respect for biodiversity, quality of visitor experience, responsible management, and local partnerships are at the heart of its development.

A presentation video of the park has also been released, showcasing the beauty of the site and its recent opening.
