Located in Ekuanitshit in Quebec’s Côte-Nord region, the Maison de la culture innue invites visitors to discover the culture, way of life and knowledge of the Ekuanitshit Innu. Facing the Mingan Archipelago, this gathering and cultural centre offers an experience deeply rooted in the community and its connection to the land.
The World of the Innu of Ekuanitshit
Discover the permanent exhibition The World of the Innu of Ekuanitshit, created in collaboration with the community. Through videos, immersive installations, maps and legends, the exhibition offers insight into Innu life on Nitassinan and the islands, as well as the importance of Elders, salmon, berries and medicinal plants.
Discover the Innu Way of Life
The Maison de la culture innue was built on a former traditional Innu summer camp site. Outside, a traditional site featuring a Shaputuan offers visitors an opportunity to learn more about traditional Innu ways of life and the deep connection between the Innu people and their territory.
Boutique Nukum
Stop by Boutique Nukum to discover products made by members of the community, including moccasins, clothing, toys, jewellery and handmade soaps. The boutique also features Innu poetry and traditional and contemporary Innu music.
During the summer season, visitors can also enjoy bannock served with preserves made from local berries.
A Living Culture to Discover
The Maison de la culture innue is also a place where knowledge and traditions are passed on. Programs focus on traditional craftsmanship, medicinal knowledge and the Innu language, Innu-aimun.
