Its mission is to highlight the sciences, notably the aquatic sciences, and to interpret the natural and historical heritage of the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region, in particular that of the Saguenay fjord and Ha! Ha! Bay. The museum also raises awareness among the community and the public of the importance of maintaining a harmonious balance with the natural environment.
Explore an aquarium of 53,000 liters of salt water and discover the species that inhabit its waters, from sea stars to sea urchins and sea cucumbers. You will be able to learn more about their way of life, their habitat, and their role within this marine ecosystem.

Connect to our collective history with the exhibition From BALSAC to CopaQ, which traces the evolution of research in genealogy and genetics in Quebec. From the creation of the BALSAC file in the 1970s to the participatory platform CopaQ, this exhibition highlights the contribution of citizens to science and their link with the history of Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean.
In the summer season, the museum also offers outdoor activities, including low-tide excursions, to discover the hidden life of the shores, as well as guided tours of the historic Saint-Alexis district, which offer an immersion in the heritage of Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean.
