PLAYING SHYLOCK
Jan 18, 2026 - Feb 08, 2026
Some roles are bigger than the stage.
Canadian screen legend Saul Rubinek (Unforgiven, Frasier, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) returns to the stage with Playing Shylock—a fierce, funny, and deeply human new work that explores the fault lines between art, identity, and accountability. When a production of The Merchant of Venice is cancelled mid-performance following public outcry, the actor playing Shylock refuses to exit quietly. Instead, he steps forward, breaking character to deliver a bold, impassioned monologue that blends razor-sharp humour with urgent questions about culture, history, and who gets to tell the story.
With wit and gravitas honed over four decades in film, television, and theatre, Rubinek commands the stage in a tour-de-force performance that’s as timely as it is timeless.
DETROIT: THE MUSIC OF MOTOR CITY
Apr 12, 2026 - May 03, 2026
From Motown to hip-hop, the music never stops.
Following last season’s sold-out success The Secret Chord: A Leonard Cohen Experience, Soulpepper returns to the Segal Centre with another electrifying musical journey.
Once called “The City of the Future,” Detroit shaped the world with its innovation and music. From the Motown Sound to jazz, hip-hop, and rock, its soundtrack tells a story of rise, fall, and resilience. Witness Detroit’s history come to life—through the rhythm of the assembly line, the echoes of abandoned factories, and the unstoppable pulse of a city that still sings.
Featuring iconic hits like “Dancing in the Street” by Martha and the Vandellas, “My Girl” by The Temptations, “Lose Yourself” by Eminem, and “What’s Going On” by Marvin Gaye.
GROW
May 24, 2026 - Jun 14, 2026
Good things come to those who cultivate.
Grow is an outrageously fun and big-hearted new Canadian musical about family, faith, and one very special plant.
Leaving their sheltered Amish community for the first time, nineteen-year-old twins Hannah and Ruth set out on Rumspringa—a chance to experience the modern world. But when their big-city adventure takes an unexpected turn, their green thumbs land them in an unlikely partnership with a cannabis dispensary owner—leading to the creation of the “world’s greatest weed.”
With a witty book by Matt Murray (Maggie) and a vibrant score by Colleen Dauncey and Akiva Romer-Segal (The Louder We Get, fka Prom Queen), Grow is a high-spirited comedy about embracing change, finding community, and forging your own path.
DI SHVEGERINS
Jun 14, 2026 - Jun 28, 2026
A million stamps, a little mazel, and a whole lot of tsuris
First performed in Yiddish in 1992 to great acclaim, this iconic translation of one of Quebec’s most celebrated plays – Michel Tremblay’s groundbreaking Les Belles-sœurs – returns to the stage for a new generation. Now, in its 60th anniversary year, the story of Germaine Lauzon and her lively stamping party once again captures the humour, struggles, and resilience of working-class women in 1960s Montreal. Hilarious, heartfelt, and bold, Di Shvegerins is a powerful celebration of language, culture, and sisterhood that continues to resonate today.
