Tourism Val d'Or - Discover la Vallée-de-l'Or

Abitibi-Témiscamingue

Let the Valley of Gold dazzle you!

The Vallée-de-l’Or (Valley of Gold) is the gateway to Abitibi-Témiscamingue, with Val-d’Or, Senneterre and Malartic as its three main hubs. The whole area is enveloped in a wondrous natural environment.

Making your way past lake after lake, you are struck by the deep blue of the water and the beauty of the surrounding landscape, ending your outing at La Vérendrye wildlife reserve. Yet, this is a mere glimpse of what the Valley of Gold has to offer. As its name suggests, this is an immensely bountiful area, known not only for the precious metals that lie below ground, but also for its dense forests and lakes teaming with fish. The Valley is also rich in human resources: people are hardworking, determined and creative. In Val-d’Or, the administrative centre for the Regional County Municipality, check out the charming Cité de l’Or (City of Gold) and Bourlamaque mining village, a heritage site where residents still live in the log homes built by Lamaque Mines in the thirties.

Then there’s the unmissable gold collection at the Abitibi-Témiscamingue mineralogy museum in Malartic.  And the Vallée-de-l’Or’s great mountain biking opportunities at Mount Bell in Senneterre, the Val-d’Or recreational forest or the all-season trail in Malartic.

Whether you’re an epicurean urbanite or a solitary soul seeking the peace of wide-open spaces, the Vallée-de-l’Or is just the ticket. In summer, you may go for the buzz of our festivals or opt to take long walks in the woods where the heady perfume of spruce trees fills the air. Take a refreshing dip in one of our many lakes or head out to do some fishing in peace and quiet.

In winter, enjoy ice skating in the middle of the woods, or explore the wide range of trails for snowshoeing, XC skiing and fat biking. You’ll enjoy our lively cafés, chocolate shops, and micro-brewery. Not to mention lovely restaurants, with beautiful offerings of regional and local products, and our gourmet favourites.
