Vanier Museopark – A unique cultural experience in the heart of Ottawa
Located in the heart of Ottawa’s Vanier neighborhood, the Vanier Museopark is a must-visit cultural destination where history, Francophone culture, and traditions meet. As the only Francophone museum in the nation's capital, it invites visitors of all ages to discover the richness of Franco-Ontarian heritage through immersive, educational, and family-friendly experiences.
Inside the museum, visitors can explore the permanent exhibition "Vanier. Our Place," which traces the evolution of the neighborhood—formerly known as Eastview—through Artifacts, archival photographs, and stories. These displays highlight the families, institutions, and landmark places that shaped the community. The Museopark also features virtual exhibition "Bado –The Francophonie Through Pencil Strokes," an exhibition available to explore online.
Throughout the year, the Museopark offers a diverse lineup of activities for the whole family: guided tours, creative and educational workshops, tailored school programs, cultural activities, and several community events, including the famous Sugar Festival. It also hosts a 100% Francophone summer camp for kids, offering educational, creative, and fun activities in a French-speaking environment.
The site is home to Canada's only urban sugar shack, nestled within a sugar bush right in the middle of the city. Visitors can discover maple traditions, syrup making, and French-Canadian culinary heritage. During the maple syrup season, the community is invited to join the sap harvesting ritual, which includes tapping the maple trees surrounding the sugar shack, where the Museopark produces its own maple syrup. Outside of the maple season, the sugar shack is also available to rent for events and special activities.
