A veritable cheese institution, La Vache à Maillotte - Nordic Cheese Factory is the destination for all gourmets. Being the most northern cheese dairy in Quebec, the cold nights and hot days of Abitibi give a typical, slightly sweet and unique taste to the cow's and sheep's milk they use. Their specialty? The famous fresh cheddar of the day, in curds, blocks or twists. Let yourself be tempted by fine cheeses, which have won many awards, such as Allegretto, an internationally renowned Parmesan type made from sheep's milk, or Fredondaine, often compared to Oka cheese. On site, you will also find the sweets of the artisan bakery, a lunch counter and many local finds. Hours: open year-round.

Founded in 1996, La Vache à Maillotte specializes in cheese making. Located in La Sarre, the company employs approximately 40 employees divided between production, administration and sales. It currently has a capacity of more than 1,500 kg of cheese per production shift. Its annual production reached more than 400,000 kg in 2012. Currently, the cheese dairy serves around a hundred points of sale in Abitibi-Témiscamingue. Since its creation, La Vache à Maillotte has developed several products and today offers an increasingly wide range of cheeses in specialty cheeses. This diversity now allows it to offer several of its fine cheeses outside the region through its Fromages CDA distributors.
