A MUSEUM COMPOUND IN THE HEART OF THE QUARTIER DES ARTS

The MNBAQ is home to the largest, most impressive collection of Québécois art, with more than 42,000 pieces spanning from the 17th century onward. It provides an exceptional journey through Québec’s art history. The MNBAQ borders the Plains of Abraham in Québec City, a World Heritage City. This prime location between city and nature gives the museum a unique charm and makes it a must-see attraction.

As part of the Montcalm district, the MNBAQ is highly involved in its community. It stays in tune with the city’s major cultural events throughout the year. It also brightens the city beyond its walls—literally— thanks to Lumière sur l’art, a series of giant lamps along Cartier Avenue. The MNBAQ is writing a new chapter in its history with the creation of the future Riopelle Space (temporary name), which will exhibit the biggest public collection of Jean Paul Riopelle’s works and is slated to open in 2026. In the meantime, certain pavilions are closed during construction work, but the Pierre Lassonde Pavilion remains open and offers abundant exhibitions and activities.

THE PIERRE LASSONDE PAVILION
Situated on the Grande Allée, the main thoroughfare leading to Old Québec City, the Pierre Lassonde Pavilion is the gateway to the MNBAQ. This world-class building showcases the MNBAQ’s collections, including Québec contemporary, decoratives and design art, Inuit art, and Tribute to Rosa Luxemburg, Jean Paul Riopelle’s imposing fresco. The pavilion’s majestic glass lobby, monumental spiral staircase, glassed-in cantilevered stairs level with the trees, and inner courtyard that preserves heritage elements from the former presbytery of the Église Saint-Dominque impress architecture lovers.

FOR AN EVEN MORE MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE
For visitors seeking knowledge and stimulating cultural experiences, the MNBAQ offers a wide array of activities for young and old alike. The activities, including guided tours, thematic lectures, creation workshops, musical or dance performances, and film showings, celebrate creation in all its forms at the MNBAQ. Our conversational agent can provide additional information. It will accompany you in discovering certain works from the MNBAQ’s collections.

The museum is a showcase for Québec creation; its Librairie-Boutique holds the largest collection of art books in Québec and its restaurant, Café Québecor by Laurent Godbout, serves food that is just as artful as anything seen in the galleries. So many reasons to keep coming back!.
