Montreal Biosphere - Space For Life

Montreal

Montreal Biosphère, Environment Museum

More than an iconic architectural landmark!

This museum dedicated to the environment joined the Montréal Space for Life museum complex in April 2021 and explores major contemporary issues through art, science, and citizen action. Exhibitions, art installations, immersive experiences, and films invite visitors to linger in reflection.

Its geodesic dome was created for Montréal Expo 67 by the famous Richard Buckminster Fuller, one of the precursors of contemporary environmental thinking. When designing the Biosphère, Fuller already had it in mind to highlight human ingenuity as the foundation of a viable cohabitation with nature on our one and only "spaceship," as he liked to call Earth. Even today, these themes link all of the museum's activities.

Located in the heart of Jean-Drapeau Park, a true natural oasis, the Biosphère offers breathtaking views of downtown Montréal and the St. Lawrence River.

It is illuminated every evening following a set of rules aimed at better protecting biodiversity and the environment.
